Classes
Our classes are run in an open studio format, rather than as a traditional formal instruction, you choose what to paint, and bring your own supplies in the medium of your choice (see the List of Materials Section). Each person works on their painting while the Instructor makes the rounds and provides advice and assistance as required. If you are doing fine, the Instructor may just walk on by and help the next person. Often the instructor will spot something that you may have missed or make a suggestion for improvement here and there, and, of course, will answer any questions you may have.
We do have some classes oriented to a specific medium (Pastels) and have some workshops where everyone tries out a new technique or explores a particular subject. In most classes there will be people working in different media, and on widely divergent subject matter from still life to portrait and landscapes. It is totally up to you what medium to work in and what subject matter.
If you are new to painting, the instructor may suggest a subject or may make you do some exercises and drawings first to get you started.Instructors
Our instructors are versant in many media, but everyone does have their preferences. We will attempt to place you in a class with an instructor whose preference matches yours, but you will find that any class will work out as there will be others working in the same media as you.
Members
The members in each class vary in their experience, some have painted for years and others may be raw beginners. We accommodate a full range of abilities. The main requirement is a desire to learn and to try out new things.
